Over the last few years, we have seen several cultural moments, such as #MeToo and the response to police violence, take place that have raised social justice struggles to the national platform. These unique cultural moments have opened up new and earnest conversations about the type of country we want to become and addressed issues that have been mostly ignored.
Forum members share strategies for members to use in their local communities to engage with state/local officials and advocate for equitable allocation of ARPA dollars. Responses are compiled below by known organizations.
In the next 25 years, one in five Americans will be Asian American or Pacific Islander. AAPIs are the largest segment of new immigrants coming to the United States. More and more are coming out as LGBTQ, yet philanthropy struggles to address the emerging needs of this fast growing community with myriad needs and unique assets. LGBTQ AAPI communities received less than $1.2 million in funding in 2016, and has never received more than $2 million annually.
