Organization Overview

Elevate Children Funders Group (ECFG) is a network of philanthropic organizations committed to advancing philanthropy that supports children and youth facing adversity.   ECFG focuses on the full lifespan of children and youth affected by adversity, from birth to adolescence with a focus on children facing the threats of violence, abuse, exploitation, and neglect.

Established in 2011, ECFG’s 20 members include many of the leading global funders and philanthropic advisors funding issues related to children and youth affected by adversity.  With its growing membership, ECFG has expanded its portfolio of services, which includes: research and education; collaboration and convening; working groups; and incubation.   ECFG seeks to help find like-minded donors for certain donor members and influence other donors as a step to reshaping the field to advance children’s rights and well-being.

With a new Executive Director hired in mid-2020, ECFG is currently embarking strategic planning for the next three years and is seeking a Program Officer to contribute to the exciting next phase of the organization.

Position Overview

The Elevate Children Funders Group (ECFG) Program Officer provides program and technical support for the network. Specific areas of responsibility include:

  • Encouraging learning and exchange leading to action among members of the network
  • Leading member engagement
  • Coordinating specific working groups and managing projects
  • Manage organizational communications
  • Other duties as assigned

Principal Responsibilities and Duties 

Learning and Exchange

  • Lead the development of member learning and exchange, focusing on effective methodologies and strategies to encourage shared learning, reflection, and collaboration toward action
  • With Executive Director (ED), design and oversee member and partner webinars and meetings, including Annual General Meetings, Strategic Reflection and Exchange Series, occasional topical or technical webinars, and other learning opportunities
  • Work with ECFG members and external experts to identify topics and panelists for webinars and events; design and help deliver webinars and events
  • Manage online member portal, posting regular updates and encouraging member use
  • Support the execution of research initiatives
  • Stay abreast of developments in philanthropy and the field of children in adversity; act as a thought partner to members and ED

Membership & Network Engagement

  • Implement and refresh as needed member and network engagement strategy
  • Induct new members
  • Design and organize in-person and virtual meetings and events
  • Design and implement member surveys; participate in quarterly one-to-one member calls; analyze results and incorporate into member engagement strategy on an ongoing basis
  • As needed, respond to member requests and inquiries

Working Groups

  • With Executive Director, provide technical support and guidance to working groups, working with the member co-leads to ensure focused exchange and learning to generate collective action
  • Act as Secretariat point person for specific working groups, assisting WG chairs in the management of the working group; specific leads to be determined between ED and PO
  • Act as a thought partner to WG chairs and members, including by staying abreast of the latest developments within the field and informing co-chairs and members of these, especially as concerns the philanthropic sector


  • Curate monthly newsletter, including overseeing the collection of information, research, news, and other content for the monthly newsletter
  • Contribute to website, working with Program Assistant to ensure the site is up to date and relevant and serves a go-to source for the latest evaluations, reports, and evidence


  • Contribute to the development of funding proposals and reporting documents 
  • Work with ED to develop and implement quarterly organizational program and work planning; contribute to development and tracking of MEL indicators
  • Assist Director in supporting the Steering Committee
  • Contribute to organizational development, strategic planning, thought leadership, and external engagement
  • Execute additional projects as assigned by the ED

Qualifications for This Position: 


  • Five to 7 years’ professional experience, of which at least 2-3 years was with a philanthropic organization or philanthropy-serving organization; strong understanding of how foundations work
  • Significant experience or knowledge of issues related to children and youth facing adversity, particularly in the child rights and/or protection fields
  • Strong project management skills and highly organized work style; ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
  • Facility with technology and online communications platforms
  • Excellent writing and communication skills (fluency in English is required)
  • Ability to self-manage and work independently and effectively with a remote team of Secretariat staff
  • Ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Emotional maturity, particularly discretion, patience, and persistence
  • Intellectual curiosity and a willingness to question your own and others assumptions
  • A sense of humor and the ability to both work seriously while not taking yourself too seriously
  • Passionate about making the world a better place and alignment with ECFG’s values and mission; ability to derive satisfaction from seeking change on a long horizon

Strongly Preferred

  • Masters’ degree or significant (3-5 years) in international development, human rights, or a related field
  • Experience and expertise with networks, communities of practice, collaboratives, collective impact initiatives, and/or community organizing
  • Experience organizing events, particularly online, to promote shared learning, alignment, and collaboration 
  • Ability to synthesize and condense complex information for different audiences
  • Knowledge management skills
  • Capacity to facilitate collective/collaborative learning and impact, specifically with adults

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation is competitive, and determined based on experience and location.
