Organization Summary

Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership (Johnson Center) seeks a Program Manager to join the Learning Services team, which provides nationally-recognized professional education, training, and tools for philanthropic learning. The Program Manager will take primary responsibility for developing and managing the content and curricula for LearnPhilanthropy Academy and The Grantmaking School, and also work closely with the Learning Services team on related projects. Ideal candidates will have good knowledge of the philanthropic/nonprofit sector, and a background in professional/adult education and curriculum design and development.

Qualifications and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • One to three years of experience working in or with the philanthropic/nonprofit sector or in designing, developing, and maintaining education programming and/or curricula.
  • Strong communication (written and oral), conceptual, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with office computing technology and software.
  • Strong cultural competence, collaborative, and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of multiple teams.
  • Ability to adapt, multitask, keep track of details, and prioritize goals in a demanding, fast-paced work environment.
  • Experience managing projects and knowledge of project management methods.

Preferred Qualifications and Education

  • Support writing, design and production of all content that supports fundraising and Development publications and events.
  • Master’s degree in a field related to philanthropy, education, or curricular design plus at least three years of relevant professional experience.
  • Understanding of multiple professional roles and responsibilities in foundations and nonprofits.
  • Knowledge of learning models and adult learning methodologies (e.g. ADDIE, Bloom’s Learning Taxonomy, etc.).
  • Knowledge of presentation design and visual design tools (e.g. Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva, etc.).
  • Visual and artistic talent including, but not limited to, the ability to create imagery out of ideas, and presenting facts in interesting ways.
  • Experience with learning technologies and platforms (e.g. Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, Articulate Storyline, etc.).
  • Experience with assessment/evaluation development.
  • Familiarity with AP and APA Styles. 
  • Experience with website, CRM, and email management platforms.

Responsibilities - Essential Functions

  • Develop and manage content and curricula for The Grantmaking School (TGS): 
  • Stay abreast of emerging research, trends, and issues in the philanthropic sector.
  • Review and update current TGS curricula and course materials to reflect course evaluation results, instructor feedback, new Johnson Center products, new research/trends/opportunities in the field, etc.
  • Work with TGS/Learning Services team to scope projects and identify the learning needs of potential TGS customized course clients and curate content/learning activities to meet clients’ needs.
  • Review and update TGS marketing materials to ensure they reflect current course content and objectives.
  • Refine and support the TGS instructor onboarding process.
  • Work with TGS team to define and implement overall program goals and objectives.
  • Develop and manage content and curricula for LearnPhilanthropy (LP) Academy:
  • Plan and refine LP Academy online learning tracks, courses, and lessons to incorporate new research/trends in the field and respond to learner feedback.
  • Develop learning objectives for each lesson, draft initial lesson scripts, and develop initial slide desks and visuals for each lesson.
  • Work with Johnson Center staff to recruit lesson instructors/field experts, and coordinate instructor contracting, onboarding, and preparation.
  • Work with instructors to refine/edit lesson script and slides, to record the audio component of lessons, and to make any necessary re-recordings.
  • Manage video lesson production and review process with instructor, multiple Johnson Center staff, and graphics student.
  • Develop content for LP Academy online lesson pages (e.g., learning objectives, quiz questions, references, resources, LP content partner lists, etc.).
  • Work with LP team to manage LP website and LP Academy online presence. 
  • Work with Learning Services team to help craft strategic vision and program plans for the unit.
  • Other program and project roles within Learning Services and the Johnson Center, as assigned.


$48,000 – $72,000 commensurate with experience.
