COMPENSATION

Full-time, remote with starting salary range of $57,000 -$64,000. Salary range is based on D.C./DMV area.  Compensation will be adjusted for other geographic locations. 

SUMMARY 

Are you a wordsmith looking to use your talents for the greater good? Do you love all things news and shine on deadline? Do you enjoy working on lots of different projects and with teams of smart colleagues? You might be the next Communications Associate for the Council on Foundations. Reporting to the Director, Communications and Marketing, the associate works across the full breadth of the Communications and Content Team and the Council to support communications, including media relations; membership, product, and event marketing; and content development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist teammates and other colleagues with internal drafting and distributing newsletters.
  • Edit and proofread materials for external distribution, in alignment with the Council’s brand and style guidelines.
  • Act as an editor for Council web content, creating, reviewing, and updating pages as assigned.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for press inquiries, triage requests, and prepare Council staff for media interviews.
  • Track media coverage of the Council and its issues and distribute daily news clips.
  • Write and edit press releases that support the Council’s key initiatives and messaging.
  • Prepare materials and create content for external meetings and speaking engagements, including briefing documents and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for publication-related inquiries.
  • Work with Communications and Content colleagues to maintain the publications library.
  • Support the team’s management of member databases in Salesforce.
  • Maintain Council subscriptions to news services.
  • Maintain communications project files on SharePoint.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 2 years’ experience in communications, journalism, or related field
  • Experience in or knowledge of the philanthropy field is a plus.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Experience in or knowledge of the philanthropy field is a plus.
  • Excellent writing skills and storytelling abilities
  • Good graphic design sense and experience with Adobe Suite
  • Proficient skill in Microsoft Office 365 applications
  • Experience with Salesforce or other database is preferred
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to listen well and positively represent the organization and its mission
  • Ability to identify and solve problems efficiently and quickly
  • Ability to manage many and/or differing tasks, maintain productivity, and successfully meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team
  • Ability to work effectively and positively with a range of individuals and working styles, and with people at all organization levels including staff, board members, foundation officers, donors, and vendors
