Southern California Grantmakers is a membership association where our region’s philanthropic leaders come together to learn, connect, and take action. Our mission is to champion effective philanthropy and advance collaborative efforts to create meaningful change in our communities. Southern California Grantmakers connects grantmakers through sector-wide conferences, trainings, and networking opportunities—providing support and leadership for collaboration on projects and for action on public policy issues. Southern California Grantmakers currently brings together 300+ members who represent the spectrum of philanthropy, including foundations, family philanthropy, corporate giving, consultants to philanthropy, and government grantmakers. We also co-lead Philanthropy California, an initiative of Northern California Grantmakers (NCG), Southern California Grantmakers (SCG), and San Diego Grantmakers (SDG) whose combined membership represents more than 600 philanthropic organizations investing billions every year to support communities across the state, the country, and worldwide.

Over the past several years, Southern California Grantmakers' size and scope have grown dramatically. Now, we’re reorganizing and expanding so we can deepen and strengthen our impact in the ways that our members and partners are seeking: more intersectional issue-based programming and professional development that helps funders take bold action for equitable and just impacts in communities; robust, nimble action on policy and advocacy; convening and facilitating collaborations and partnerships; and investing in our own sustainability and capacity to lead as an organization with equity at the center. To support the growth of our work and of our extraordinarily capable current staff, we are excited to add several new positions across the organization.

Background on Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation (TRHT) initiative

TRHT is supported by the WK Kellogg Foundation (WKKF) and is a comprehensive, national and community-based process to address and dismantle the historical and contemporary effects of systemic racism. TRHT aims to bring about transformational and sustainable change, in both individuals and larger systems.

The Foundation identified 14 place based TRHT locations throughout the United States and Southern California Grantmakers was selected to be the backbone organization to implement TRHT in Los Angeles County for a 3 year period beginning in mid-2017.

The community based TRHT framework consists of narrative change, racial healing, relationship building and systems change which will be implemented and evaluated by multiple sectors (business, philanthropy, community, nonprofits, and government).

Position Description

Under the direction of the Director, TRHT-LA, the Manager, TRHT-LA, will assist with the development and implementation of programs and events in coordination with consultants and other Southern California Grantmakers staff. The Manager serves as the primary contact of all programmatic, logistical, and administrative aspects of TRHT-LA working closely with the Associate, TRHT-LA.

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Cultivate relationships and partnerships with government, business, nonprofit and community stakeholders to successfully incorporate the TRHT-LA within SCG and the larger Los Angeles County community
  • Serve as partner to Director, to develop focused goals, plans and outcomes that comply with the framework set by WKKF
  • Research and gather resources required for the completion of this initiative by utilizing the available resources or obtaining new ones
  • Research, manage, and oversee social media and website content
  • Responsible for identifying other initiatives, events and programs that support the TRHT-LA framework and vice versa
  • Work closely with communications team to ensure timely development and distribution of key communication materials
  • Serve as liaison with the Core Stewardship group
  • Provide administrative support to the Core Stewardship Group including attending all meetings, preparing agenda, taking notes at each meeting
  • Prepare reports and findings to share with stakeholders, community leaders, partners, contractors, etc. regarding initiative
  • Schedule and facilitate meetings, particularly for coordinating planning groups via phone or in-person
  • Identify and schedule education and training activities for stakeholders and community members
  • Prepare a schedule for completion of the project in a systemic manner
  • Keep a track of all stages of project by documenting and recording outcomes
  • Work with evaluator to keep track of progress
  • Ensure the project is completed within deadlines

Qualifications 

  • Minimum of two years of successful work experience in a similar capacity
  • BA or BS degree or equivalent
  • Content expert in racial injustice and history, specifically as it relates to the LA County landscape
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and build thriving, effective collaborative approaches  to addressing complex social change
  • Ability to prioritize amid competing demands, respond effectively to time-sensitive, emergent opportunities and challenges, self-initiate and multi-task
  • Ability to manage conflict constructively and successfully
  • Experienced in facilitating discussions on topics related to race, gender, and other underrepresented groups
  • Basic understanding of philanthropy, preferred
  • Ability to analyze research and data findings
  • Solid organizational skills
  • Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience in project management from conception to delivery
  • Ability to travel around the County and fly nationally to meet with stakeholders and to attend events/meetings
  • Ability to transport materials to programs, meetings and events. May require some physical lifting
  • Ability to work off hours (evenings and weekends).  May require flexibility beyond regular office hours

Salary Range

$57,000 to $65,000 depending on experience
