This first of its kind report aims to enhance the knowledge of global philanthropy. WINGS engaged its members in actively identifying the gaps in knowledge about the field to better understand local practices within a global context.
Though diverse, WINGS members have a common platform through which to build and share many of the same values, much like regional associations. The report identifies four elements of such a platform: data, updated practices, the ability to measure impact, and communication. WINGS, like the Forum, believes it is important to create a degree of commonality while encouraging the richness of diversity, build common understanding of terms within global and local contexts, and strengthen ownership of this knowledge-building by WINGS members.
While this report takes a global view, the paralells to the role of regional associations and the Forum in American philanthropy are quite striking, providing lessons learned that can be applied among any set of affinity groups or grantmaker associations.
