Trista Harris Named One of Philanthropy's Top 40 Under 40

Tuesday, January 5, 2016
Trista Harris, president of the Minnesota Council on Foundations (MCF), was named to The Chronicle of Philanthropy’s first-ever 40 Under 40 list. Trista is known nationally as a philanthropic futurist and a passionate advocate for new leaders in the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors.

The Chronicle’s list shines a spotlight on Trista and other extraordinary young nonprofit leaders, fundraisers, foundation officials, donors and social entrepreneurs from across the country. All are crafting innovative solutions for tough problems, building the strength of the nonprofit world and driving change in their communities and around the world. The 40 on the list were selected from a pool of more than 400 nominees.

Since joining MCF in mid-2013, Trista has led some exciting accomplishments. In 2013, working with the Bush Foundation, MCF launched the Ron McKinley Philanthropy Fellowship, which prepares individuals from underrepresented communities for careers in philanthropy. Almost 20 fellowships have been awarded since then. In addition, MCF spent 62 percent of its 2014 budget for outside services with companies owned by minorities and women – far surpassing its goal of 20 percent.

Besides her work at MCF, Harris is a 2015 Bush Fellow focused on how to use the tools of futurism to solve social problems. She serves on the board of the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP), on the Humphrey School of Public Affairs advisory committee, and she is a member of the Minnesota Women’s Economic Roundtable.
