  • Election Results Analysis - The Philanthropy Roundtable's new Vice President for Public Policy, Sean Parnell, led a discussion via conference call on Wednesday, November 9, on the results of the 2016 General Election and the impact they will have on the charitable sector. Parnell was joined for the call by Sandra Swirski, Executive Director of the Alliance for Charitable Reform and Anne Urban, Partner at Urban Swirski & Associates, who offered analysis of the new political and policy landscape in Washington.

  • Washington Update Live! Post Election Analysis - The Council on Foundations is hosting a free webinar on Tuesday, November 15 from 4p.m. to 5p.m. EST. Speakers on the webinar will analyze the results of the 2016 election and discuss what it all means for the philanthropic sector.

  • Trump’s Presidency and the New Congress- What the Future Holds for Immigrants and Refugees- Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees and partners is hosting a webinar on Monday, November 21 from 1-2:30 pm ET. It will ground funders in the immediate concerns facing immigrant and refugee communities; provide early analyses of the policy and political landscape including the new Congress; and offer a preview of plans to protect due process and fundamental rights at the local, state, and federal level.

  • Philanthropy Advocacy Playbook (Alliance for Justice)- This publication provides information on 11 benefits and conversation-starters about philanthropic advocacy and lobbying.  Specifically, it answers your questions about legal rules and provides concrete examples, templates, resources, and tips.

  • Transition Team Advocacy (Bolder Advocacy)- The transition period (the time between election and inauguration days) is an important window of time when organizations, including 501(c)(3) charities, can build relationships and work to have their concerns made a priority of the new administration. There are many activities, including ones that do not constitute lobbying, that organizations can engage in to influence the policies and direction of a new administration.

  • Philanthropy and the Renewal of Democracy: Is it Time to Step Up Our Game? (Philanthropy Northwest & Kettering Foundation)- In the Fall 2016 edition of this monograph, Daniel Kemmis explores the sometimes-fraught relationship between philanthropy and democracy. Beginning with a wide-ranging stroll through the shared history of philanthropy and democracy, Kemmis examines the current post-Citizens United landscape and asks whether philanthropy can and should do more to strengthen the infrastructure and practices of democracy.
