The Case for Funding Black-Led Social Change
Black Social Change Funders Network (BSCFN), an initiative forged by the leadership of ABFE: A Philanthropic Partnership for Black Communities and the Hill-Snowdon Foundation
This caall to action urges foundations and grantmakers to markedly increase support to Black-led social change organizations. Their goal is to make Black communities thrive and empower the nation to take its most ambitious strides for racial and social equity. Coauthored by ABFE President and CEO Susan Taylor Batten and Hill-Snowdon Executive Director Nat Chioke Williams, it indicates that less than 2 percent of funding by the nation’s largest foundations is specifically targeted to the Black community. Calling investment in Black-led social change a “moral imperative,” they recommend at least a 25 percent increase in giving by the nation’s largest foundations over the next five years, with emphasis on strengthening the infrastructure for Black-led social change.

Funders for LGBTQ Issues
This infographic raises awareness about how LGBTQ people are disproportionately represented in the criminal justice system. It notes that biased policing and aggressive sentencing make LGBTQ people more likely to face time in prison, where they often face poor treatment and abuse. It also explores funding for LGBTQ criminalization and criminal justice reform, which, while still small, is growing.

The 2017 edition of Exponent's flagship report includes mission-critical statistics about member foundations’ boards & governance, investments, administration, and grantmaking. The 2017 Foundation Operations and Management Report also includes the following findings:
- Foundation members collectively awarded an estimated $4 billion, 5.2% of their assets.
- Succession and the need for greater focus/impact in their grantmaking are top concerns.
- Women outnumber men in all the staff roles in the survey with just 44% of CEO/top administrators identifying as male.
- Women CEOs or executive directors earn, on average, 85 cents for every $1 paid to men, regardless of employee experience or foundation asset size.
