We look forward to seeing you in DC in a few days. Foundations on the Hill and PolicyWorks Institute are still happening as scheduled.
Health and Safety at Foundations on the Hill 2020
As we prepare for Policy Works and Foundations on the Hill next week, your health and safety are our top concern. We are closely monitoring the potential impact of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) and following the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Rest assured that we are taking appropriate precautions to provide a safe and healthy environment at the event. Please take the time to review our onsite support plan and public health recommendations for personal vigilance.
As of February 29, the CDC issued the following risk assessment: “For the general American public, who are unlikely to be exposed to this virus at this time, the immediate health risk from COVID-19 is considered low." Read the complete Situation Summary here.
Following are recommendations for personal vigilance to ensure minimal contact with potentially ill individuals, based on health and safety guidelines established by public health officials:
- Practice good hand hygiene. Wash your hands often and thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available.
- When coughing and sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue. You can also cough or sneeze into your sleeve. Throw used tissues in the trash and immediately wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Avoid sharing drinking glasses, cups, eating utensils, dishes, towels or other items. Wash these items thoroughly with soap and water after use.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick whenever possible.
- Practice other good health habits: clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces, especially when someone is ill.
United Philanthropy Forum and the JW Marriott Washington, D.C., are planning to implement special onsite support, including, but not limited to:
- Increased availability of hand sanitizing stations throughout the meeting areas.
- Increased cleaning and disinfection process across all high-volume touchpoints.
We encourage you to use your own judgment regarding actions like shaking hands and exchanging business cards—actions that are not part of the current CDC recommendations.
We are closely monitoring the situation and will update you as needed. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team at policy@unitedphilforum.org if you have questions or concerns.
Foundations on the Hill 2020
March 9-11, 2020
JW Marriott Washington DC
Join us at Foundations on the Hill (FOTH) along with more than 300 philanthropy representatives from around the country as we head to Washington, DC to speak with our elected officials about the policies that matter most to philanthropy.
Presented by United Philanthropy Forum and in partnership with Council on Foundations, Foundations on the Hill:
- Informs and educates Congress about philanthropy;
- Creates visibility for foundations and philanthropy on Capitol Hill;
- Advocates on issues important to foundations;
- Encourages Congress to view foundations as resources on key public policy issues; and
- Builds your organization’s relationship with lawmakers and their staffs.
While the philanthropic sector builds relationships with Congress year-round, FOTH is the one time a year when philanthropy comes together to speak with one voice to our elected leaders about the unique and vital role that charitable giving plays in America.
How it Works
Prior to FOTH, your delegation captain will schedule meetings on Capitol Hill with members of Congress. Your delegation captain will be in charge of setting up the meetings, sharing policy priorities and topics of interest to discuss, communicating with you about scheduling updates, and coordinating a pre-FOTH call for all delegation members where you will be provided with everything you need to know. In addition, there will be on-site training to prepare you for everything you should expect during your meetings on the Hill.
Who Can Participate
Foundations on the Hill is for members of United Philanthropy Forum and their foundation members. Foundations who are not members of a national or regional philanthropy-serving organization within the Forum are also welcome to participate and will be assigned to a delegation from their region by the Forum.
Foundations on the Hill is sponsored by Bank of America. We are thankful for their support of this event to bring philanthropy's key policy issues front and center on Capitol Hill.
FOTH Registration is $175 per person.
Please contact Courtney Moore to cancel or transfer your registration. Cancellations received before February 21 will receive a partial refund minus a $50 cancellation fee. Any cancellations received after that date will not be eligible for a refund.
PolicyWorks Institute 2020
March 8-9, 2020
JW Marriott Washington DC
United Philanthropy Forum’s PolicyWorks Institute is the primary opportunity for regional and national philanthropy-serving organizations (PSOs) to take a “deep dive” together over several days to strengthen their policy and advocacy work.

Be sure to join your PSO policy colleagues in DC this March for #PWI20.
