We invite you to join us on October 5, 12:30−2 p.m. ET, as we wrestle with this question and reflect on the emotional, financial and physical challenges of the disasters that communities are facing. In this special Funder-to-Funder Conversation, we will invite attendees to join with us in an exploration of the ways in which philanthropy can support recovery efforts, broadly defined, now and in the coming months and years.

Sally Ray, Director of Domestic Funds at the Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP), will share the Center’s Disaster Response Playbook while offering insights on the stages of disaster response and the importance of responding to the mental health needs of children and adults. She will be joined by Katrina Gay of NAMI, a grantee of CDP, who will introduce several trauma-informed resources for responding to stresses caused by both the pandemic and racial injustice.

Having helped communities in rural Oregon recover from forest fires and a mass shooting on a community college campus, Anne Kubisch, President of The Ford Family Foundation, will share her reflections on how local funders can respond to the emotional trauma that many in their communities may be experiencing. Laura Isiordia of The Ford Family Foundation will describe how she is working to support Latinx and low-income communities in rural Oregon while Jim White of Nonprofit Association of Oregon will offer his insights informed both by his experience responding to international humanitarian disasters at Mercy Corps and his work in Oregon’s nonprofit sector.

United Philanthropy Forum is a sponsor of this event.
