PSOs Collaborating to Advance Equitable Evaluation

Launched in 2017, the Equitable Evaluation Initiative (EEI) asks participants to imagine, "what might be possible if evaluation was conceptualized, implemented, and utilized in a manner that promotes equity?" In many ways, PSOs have been leaders in advancing racial equity in philanthropy. But as the Equitable Evaluation Framework™ lays out, common orthodoxies around evaluation remain stubbornly persistent in both philanthropy and PSOs, for example the belief that evaluators are "objective" observers or the bias that "credible evidence comes from quantitative data." These beliefs prevent us from thinking more expansively about how evaluation can be used as a tool in service of equity. Join Funders Together to End Homelessness, GEO, PEAK Grantmaking, and SoCal Grantmakers for a fishbowl conversation to share what we've learned engaging with EEI over the past year, questions we're wrestling with now, and ways we're thinking about the work going forward. This session will be intentionally interactive, so come ready to share your own experiences with evaluation.
