Breakfast Plenary

In the last decade, rural America has become more racially diverse, 24% of rural Americans are people of color and in 250 rural regions and counties, people of color are the majority. Yet most narratives present rural America as overwhelmingly white – ignoring systemic inequities that block access to opportunity and resources. In this plenary, MDC President John Simpkins will challenge us to reexamine our notions of rural America, highlight examples of funders, PSOs and rural communities in the US South successfully addressing inequity, and call us to action to use our potent tools to educate, catalyze, support, and connect our members.
