Redistricting: Shaping Community Voice and Power for the Next Decade

The 2021-22 redistricting cycle presents a once-a-decade opportunity for communities to secure their fair representation in Congress, state legislatures, municipal governments, school boards and other public bodies that shape decision-making on critical issues, including education, health care, policing, infrastructure, economic development, and the environment. Community involvement and public transparency in drawing new district lines is fundamental to guard against political and racial gerrymandering that reduces communities’ power and access to resources.

Funder associations and collaboratives can exercise important roles as supporters and allies with community groups in their efforts to promote fair representation. As redistricting follows directly on the census, now is the time to learn about redistricting and plan for funding and action in the coming year.
